During the Plessy vs. Ferguson case it became very apparent that there were some serious problems with the justice system and the government. Many African American people were feeling that they were not being treated equally and they were not being afforded equal things either. After Plessy lost his appeals and ended up pleading guilty and paying his fine, things became even more restricted for the African American people. Jim Crow laws were enforced even harder all throughout the country. Jim Crow laws were suppose to enforce the "separate but equal" status for the African Americans, but it did nothing but segregate people more and create even more racial divides.
In this documentary people will see exactly what the Jim Crow laws would do and how it would end up create more and more problems. Jim Crow laws prohibited the African Americans and White people from really intermingling. These Jim Crow laws would end up stopping the African American culture from some of the following:
A black male could not offer his hand to shake another white persons hand or help them out.
African Americans and whites were not allowed eating together and if they were then whites would be served first and a partition would be placed in between them.
No lighting of cigarettes to a white person
African Americans were not allowed to be affectionate with one another in public
African Americans were introduced to whites but never a white person to an African American
There were not courtesy titles to respect an African American when talking to them or about them. African Americans were only allowed to using courtesy titles towards whites and they were not allowed to call them by their first name.
When riding in a car that is driven by a white person then the African American would sit in the back or in the trunk.
White motorists had the right of way at all intersections
